Chapter 5 – here we go!

Me, today, right now

Hi everyone! It’s 9:44am on Wednesday 20th March 2013, and I’m sitting at the computer about to begin the fifth and final chapter of Mission Improbable. Here’s a picture of me, complete with cup of tea.

I’m not at the computer I normally use. Normally, I use my wheezy old laptop, but I seem to have mislaid the power cord, so I’m sitting at the big computer in the living room instead. Don’t be fooled by that brightly lit window behind me, it’s miserably dark, cloudy and drizzly here at the moment.

Just the right weather for curling up with a good book! Now then, where did we leave off at the end of Chapter 4…?

Hello!

Some bloke called Simon something or other

The first chapter of Mission Improbable is now live, and I for one can’t wait to find out what happens next – seriously, I have no idea what Jake and Emma are going to do!

When I visit schools, I often hold sessions in which I write a make-it-up-as-we-go-along chapter based on suggestions from the class, but I’ve never written this kind of weekly serial before. It’s rather exciting!

I’m really pleased to be writing a spy story, because it’s a genre I’ve always enjoyed, ever since I first saw a James Bond film when I was about ten years old (it was You Only Live Twice, on a double bill with Thunderball at the Clifton Cinema, Leamington Spa).

Have you readers got any favourite spy stories, movies or TV shows?

Happy Friday!

*fanfare* The new chapters are live and ready for you to read!

Did a grey appear in the space pod, did an explosion expand the wormhole or was Alex left to pilot the craft alone? Find out which way the readers voted in the new chapter of Shadow People.

Faced with the evil Thumb Fairy’s choice, did Troy and Connor place their fate in the hands of Suzie the razor-toothed banshee, the ‘obliging’ ogre or the slowly descending scissors? Find out in the new chapter of The Tooth Fairy Murders.

And now, you have the exciting task of voting to decide how the stories end! Don’t miss the chance to have your say – vote by 3 pm on Tuesday!

Shiny new author checking in

Hello! How are you? You’re looking lovely. I like what you’ve done with your hair.

I’m Barry Hutchison, author of the award-winning Invisible Fiends horror series, The 13th Horseman comedy fantasy novel, and lots of other things I’ve forgotten about. I’ve been allowed to join in the madness here at Fiction Express, and I only had to sob uncontrollably for four hours before they’d let me – result!

If you want to find out more about me, read some of my short stories or see my horrifying big face with your own eyes, feel free to take a look at my website.

I won’t tell you much about my Fiction Express story yet, because I’ve got no idea what’s going to happen in it. What I can tell you is that it’s called The Tooth Fairy Murders, it’s a crime mystery whodunnit type thingummy, featuring a revenge-crazed unicorn and a woolly hat which might be magic.

Beyond that, I don’t really know, because you’ll be helping me make it all up as we go along. But you can definitely expect EXCITEMENT and ADVENTURE and PEOPLE BEING HIT ON THE HEAD WITH FLUTES, which are the three key ingredients to every good story I reckon.

Part one of The Tooth Fairy Murders will be going online on Friday, and I’m looking forward to finding out what you think. Let me know in the comments below, or just post a message saying hello. Feel free to ask me any questions, too. Unless it’s about maths. I’m rubbish at maths.

Olympic Adventure

Hello everyone!

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of the boys’ races at the Olympics. We know almost nothing about them, which is great for a writer because no one can tell you that you’ve ‘got it wrong’! (Not even the editor!)

I reckon it’d be a good idea to have a Junior Olympics today, too – boys and girls, of course. There is a Student Games but that’s for young adults. Not the same.

I’m really looking forward to Chapter Two – I wonder how many of you are going to vote for a fight?! My pencil’s sharp, brain whirling, dog sitting quietly at my feet  (thank goodness!) – all set to go.

PS Spent the afternoon on Google Earth making sure I got my geography right. Writers have to be so careful. You will let me know if I’ve made a mistake, won’t you?

Welcome to St Luthor’s

Dear readers,

So, chapter one of The School for Supervillains is now live. What happens next to Mandrake is in your hands. While I’m waiting nervously for her to be condemned to one of three deeply unpleasant options, I thought I’d say hello.

I can’t wait to wade deeper in to the world of St Luthor’s. I can’t promise a pleasant, easy ride for Mandrake.Nor can I promise that all the characters will survive to the end of the story. But I do promise you villainy, peril, terror and a dash of evil laughter.

If you have questions, comments, ideas, illustrations or good jokes, do step forward. I promise there are no trapdoors waiting to swallow you. Probably.

Oh, and, when the votes are in, if your choice for what should happen next doesn’t win, there’s only one thing to do: write it yourself. If you want tips for how to do that, just ask.

Louie
